Female Law Enforcement Officer of the Year selection criteria:

Exceptional valor: a police woman who distinguishes herself by bravery, heroism, or outstanding courage and has placed the safety and welfare of her community above all other considerations.

Exceptional achievement:  Exceptional achievement can be excellence as demonstrated by a female law enforcement officer who has

  • Made significant contributions to the profession
  • Shown outstanding knowledge, expertise, and professionalism
  • Created contributions that have affected the police profession in the community or region
  • Presents an influential impact in policing in a professional role (speaker, lecturer, writer, community liaison)
  • Serves as a role model for other police women

A female law enforcement officer can distinguish herself by exceptional achievement in any police endeavor, including but not limited to

  • Training efforts
  • Crime prevention
  • Investigative work
  • Juvenile programs
  • Community relations
  • Traffic safety
  • Drug control and prevention

Nomination Requirements:

  • Letter of nomination
  • Complete report of any incident/incidents
  • Any media reports available

Female Law Enforcement CIVILIAN of the Year selection criteria:

Exceptional achievement:  Exceptional achievement can be excellence demonstrated by a female law enforcement civilian who has:

  • Shown outstanding knowledge, expertise, and professionalism.
  • Made contributions as a civilian affecting the office where employed.
  • Presented an influential and professional impact.
  • Served as a role model for other female civilians through actions and appearance.

A female law enforcement civilian can distinguish herself through exceptional achievement in any professional office endeavor, including but not limited to:

  • Dedication to Professionalism through Education and Training
  • Supervisory Skills
  • Mentoring
  • Supportive Services Efforts
  • Maintaining / Updating Criminal Records
  • Clerical / Computer Skills

  • Letter of nomination
  • Examples of demonstrated applicable criteria

PROFESSIONAL LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD:

Periodic award to a female law enforcement officer who reflects a career of dedicated service, accomplishments, and/or contributions to policing and women in policing, such as:

  • Sustained accomplishments affecting policing and/or women in policing
  • Demonstrated service or commitments beyond job expectations which have significantly advanced the status of policing and/or women in policing
  • Demonstrated progressive leadership and provided personal ideals which have advanced the field of women in law enforcement
  • Provided inspiration and vision to promote evolution and ongoing dynamics of policing and/or women in policing

The special significance of this award is enduring nature of the achievements, and that the accomplishments and/or contributions have value to policing beyond the recipient's lifetime. 

Nomination Requirements:

  • Three letters of support are required
  • Any other forms of documentation, such as media coverage, copies of letters of commendation , other awards or recognition of efforts that support the nomination.
